Microneedling

Controlled micro-injury to the skin via fine needles, stimulating collagen production. Often paired with radiofrequency (RF microneedling — Morpheus8, Vivace) for deeper remodeling.

Standard vs RF microneedling

Standard microneedling (SkinPen, Dermapen) uses fine needles only. Best for: superficial texture, mild scarring, fine lines, post-acne marks. Minimal downtime — 1–2 days of redness.

RF microneedling (Morpheus8, Vivace, Genius RF) adds radiofrequency energy at the needle tip, delivering heat to the dermis. Better for: deeper acne scarring, skin tightening, sagging jowls. Longer downtime — 3–7 days, sometimes with pinpoint bleeding visible.

What gets treated

  • Acne scarring (best results from RF, multiple sessions)
  • Fine lines and texture irregularity
  • Stretch marks
  • Mild skin laxity (RF only)
  • Large pores

What to look for

  • An aesthetician or nurse certified on the specific device they’re operating
  • Realistic session count quoted upfront (one session rarely delivers final result)
  • Documented pre/post photos in matching lighting
  • Clear pre-treatment skincare prep instructions

Red flags

  • Single-session “transformation” claims
  • No discussion of post-treatment skincare protocol
  • Device that the clinic can’t name or whose maintenance/calibration they can’t speak to
