Lip filler

Hyaluronic acid filler placed in the lips for volume, definition, or hydration. The most-requested filler subspecialty — and the one with the widest range of injector skill.

Common techniques

  • Natural enhancement — incremental volume that follows the existing lip shape; conservative, undetectable
  • Russian lip technique — vertical injection pattern that lifts the lip outward and upward; produces a more defined Cupid’s bow and slight heart shape
  • Hollywood/Paris — emphasises the central pillow and Cupid’s bow projection
  • Lip flip with Botox — small Botox dose to flip the upper lip outward; pairs with filler for fuller appearance without more volume

What to look for

  • A portfolio that matches the look you want (a clinic that does great Russian lips may not do great natural lips, and vice versa)
  • Cannula technique offered for risk-averse patients (lower bruising, lower vascular risk)
  • Hyaluronidase on premises
  • An injector who’ll start conservative and build up across sessions, rather than over-volumising on day one

Red flags

  • One-style portfolios — every patient looks the same regardless of facial structure
  • No mention of vascular risk or how it’s mitigated
  • Pressure to commit to multiple syringes upfront
  • “Lip fillers” that turn out to be permanent fillers (silicone, PMMA) — these are unsafe in lips and not reversible
